St. Thomas of Canterbury Soup Kitchen offers opportunities for motivated volunteers to serve guests in an atmosphere of hospitality. Loyola has partnered with St. Thomas for many years to provide volunteers for their weekly meals. Leaders are present with volunteers on Tuesdays and Fridays between 3:15 and 7:30 p.m. to assist with preparing food, setting up tables and chairs, serving the meal, and cleaning up. Soup Kitchen Leaders coordinate the logistics, transportation, safety, and community of the program, with support from CSA Staff. Soup Kitchen Leaders also plan weekly reflections and attend monthly meetings with the CSA Coordinator. 4.5 hour commitment every week, 3 additional hours each month.
Loyola4Chicago is a Community Service and Action program in which students provide once-weekly volunteer service to one of 10 organizations in Chicago during the academic year. Students work in service teams at various sites including work with children, immigrants, folks with disabilities, folks experiencing homelessness, and the elderly, among others. Each volunteer team is led by a Student Leader who coordinate the logistics, transportation, safety, and community of the program, with support from CSA Staff. Leaders plan and facilitate the group's reflections twice a month. Leaders also attend monthly meetings with the CSA coordinator. 3.5 hour commitment every week, 3 additional hours each month.
